Akshaya tritiya is the third day from Amavayasya (new moon) which occurs during the suklapaksha period. This day is considered to be a most auspicious day in a year and everyone can purchase new clothes, diamond,gold, silver or even start learning music on that particular day.Gold is considered very auspicious and safest investment in India.So people in India are buying gold on akshaya tritiya. This year Akshaya Tritiya falls on 30th April 2006 i.e on Sunday.The reason for this day to be auspicious is the position of Sun and Moon on that particulat day.Every year, Akshaya tritiya falls between April 14th and May 14th.During this period, Sun is in the Aries which is in exalted position and Moon in Taurus which is also in exalted position. As the Sun, the lord of the planets and the Moon the lord of creativity (sense) are exalted,that day is considered to be an auspicious day in India.
