Shaivism

Occult of the Indian god Shiva, with Vaishnavism and Saktism, one of many three principal forms of fashionable Hinduism. Saktismconsists of such various movements as the extremely philosophic Śaiva-siddhnnta, the socially distinctive Lingnyat, ascetic orders such because the daśnāmī sannyāsins, and innumerable people variants.

The beginnings of the Siva cult have been traced back by some students to non-Aryan phallic worship. Although this isn't conclusive, it's clear that the Vedic god Rudra (“the Howler”) was amalgamated with the figure of Śiva (“Auspicious One”) that emerged within the interval after the Upanishads. The Śvetaśvatara Upanisad treats Siva because the paramount deity, but it's not till sometime between the 2nd century BC and the 2nd century AD and the rise of the Pāśupata sect that organized sectarian worship developed.
