Chandi Devi Temple (mandir)
Located on the
highest of Neel Parvat, in Haridwar, Chandi Devi Temple (mandir) is among the
most well-known mandir of India. Thought of to be one of many Shaktipeeths of
North India, this place is of great spiritual significance. It is stated to have
the ability to meet the desires of devotees and this is the reason it is usually
often called Siddhpeetha. As per a legend associated with the temple (mandir),
Goddess Chandika Devi rested on at Neel Parvat, for a short time, after slayings
Demon kings - Shumbh and Nishumbha. The temple was built to welcome her back.
The presiding deity of this temple is 'Chandi Devi', a type of Shakti.
Chandi Devi Temple (mandir) was built by the reigning king of Kashmir - Suchat
Singh, in 1929. However, the principle idol at the temple is alleged to have
been installed by Adi Shankaracharya, one of the greatest Hindu priests, in the
8th century. The temple (mandir) is open throughout the year for the devotees,
from 6 am to eight pm, on a normal day. The morning aarti at the temple (mandir)
begins at 5.30 within the morning. Right now, Chandi Devi Temple (mandir) is
managed by the Mahants. Nevertheless, it is in the strategy of forming a trust
for its management.
You can get auto rickshaw, cycle rickshaw, tongas and taxis for reaching Chandi
Devi temple (mandir), from any part of Haridwar. You can even opt for the
trekking-route, of about three km, from Chandighat. One other mode of reaching
the primary shrine is thru the cable car, which is much less time taking as well
as adventurous. It hardly takes 20-25 minutes to reach the holy shrine this way.
Pilgrims go to this temple (mandir) all year long to hunt the holy blessings of
Goddess Chandi. The temple of Anjana Devi, the mom of Lord Hanuman is merely 200
meter from this temple (mandir).
