Huma temple (Mandir)
Huma
temple (mandir), situated close to Sambhalpur, was established in
the year 1670. It is believed that the temple was constructed by the
King Baliar Singh, the fifth king of the Chauhan dynasty of
Sambalpur. It's popularly generally known as the Leaning temple
(mandir) of Huma, as it doesn't stand upright and is tilted towards
one side. Infect, nearly every thing throughout the temple advanced
is skewed. The temple is situated on the banks of Mahanadi River, at
a distance of about 23 km from the Sambhalpur region of Orissa.
The temple (mandir) is devoted to Lord Shiva, one of the Gods
forming the Hindu Trinity. There is an attention-grabbing legend
behind the construction of the Huma temple. People say that there
was a milkman, who used to go throughout river Mahanadi to worship
Lord Shiva. He used to offer milk to the Lord everyday. In the
future, to his surprise, the rock idol consumed the milk provided by
the milkman. This miraculous incident paved approach for the
development of temple. During Shivaratri, a grand fair takes place
on the Huma temple.
