Lingaraj temple
Lingaraj temple (mandir) is among the hottest temples of Orissa. The
temple is devoted to Lord Shiva, also referred to as ‘Lingaraj’.
It's adorned with beautiful sculptures, which have been imprinted on
the spire. Lingaraja temple (mandir) is roughly 54.eight metres high
and enshrines a huge sculpture of Lord Shiva, made up of granite.
The statue is 8 toes in diameter and is positioned on a platform
that's about 8 inches above ground. The deity is bathed everyday
with water, milk and bhang (marijuana).
Lingaraj temple of Bhubaneswar is believed up to now back to the
later half of eleventh century. Nonetheless, some people are of the
belief that, some elements of the temple (mandir) have been there
because the sixth century. It is also said that the temple (mandir)
was built by Jajati Keshari, the SomaVanshi King. Nevertheless,
there are not any historic information to authenticate the claim.
The high partitions of Lingaraja temple (mandir), which were made
through the use of stable pink sandstones, lend it the look of a
fortress, when viewed from outside.
On the jap aspect of the temple, lies its solitary entrance point,
which is usually often known as the ‘Simhadwara’ or the ‘Lions'
Gate’. One of many oldest temples of Bhubaneshwar, Lingaraja has one
hundred fifty smaller shrines inside its large courtyard. Lingaraj
temple is mainly made up of four components, namely the principle
temple, the 'Yajna Shala', the 'Bhoga Mandap' and the 'Natya Shala'.
Together with Lord Shiva, it also enshrines Lord Vishnu, in the type
of Saligramam idol. The principle gates of the temple (mandir) have
Lord Shiva’s Trishul on one facet and Lord Vishnu’s Chakra on the
other.
