Naina Devi Temple (mandir)
Naina Devi is
considered to be some of the revered Hindu temples in India. It's situated on
the northern shore of Naini Lake, within the Nainital district of Uttarakhand.
The presiding deity of this temple (mandir) is Maa Naini Devi or Mata Sati. As
per Hindu mythology, the temple marks the spot the place Deity Sati’s eye fell
on the earth, after Lord Shiva carried her charred remains, taking them out of
the fireplace of the yagna carried out by her father - Daksha.
Naina Devi is without doubt one of the temples built on the stays of Goddess
Sati and is taken into account to be extremely sacred and pristine by the
devotees. Two eyes on the roof of temple depict the “Deity”. Maa Naini Devi, on
this temple (mandir), is shown accompanied with Lord Ganesha, the God of Wisdom,
and Kali Ma, the Goddess of Dying and Destruction. Town of ‘Nainital’ got its
name from the Naina Devi temple only.
The temple (mandir) is situated in the midst of 1567 yard long, 167 yard wide
and ninety three ft deep lake. Yearly since 1918, a grand statue-immersion
ceremony has been happening here, on Bhadrapad Shukla Ashtami. Naina Devi temple
(mandir) serves as a significant vacationer spot of Nainital. It's said that the
present temple (mandir) at Nainital truly replaces the original 15th century
temple (mandir), which was built during Kushan dynasty reign and bought
destroyed in a landslide, in 1880.
