Ramnath Temple (mandir)
Situated 22 km from the state capital Panajim, the source of the
temple (mandir) of Lord Ramnath is steeped in mythology. Natives
consider that after slaying King Ravana of Lanka, a remorse-crammed
Lord Rama installed a Shivalinga on the shores so as to atone for
his act. Since then the temple (mandir) got here to be often known
as Rameshwaram or Ramnath.
The Ramnath temple (mandir) was initially located at a resolution
known as Loutolim, arrange by Gaud Saraswat Brahmins. As the
Portuguese went about their job of decreasing Hindu temples to
ruins, the idol of Lord Ramnath, like many different deities in Goa,
was removed from the unique temple (mandir) and shifted to its
present day spot at Bandode. The Bandode space was underneath the
reign of Bijapur Sultan at that time.
Although the presiding deity is Lord Shiva, the Ramnath temple is
the abode of different deities reminiscent of Shri Laxmi Narayana,
Shri Kamakshi, Shri Santeri and Shri Sidhanath. Much like the
Mahalsa temple (mandir), the courtyard of Ramnath temple
incorporates a five-storied deep stambha or lamp pillar carved with
images of Hindu on its base. The annual pageant or Jatra of the
temple is widely known with fervor and devotion with the traditional
palanquin parading around the temple (mandir) carrying the idol of
the deity.
