Yamunotri
Yamunotri is the start line of the holy River Yamuna. It is the westernmost
shrine in the Garhwal vary of the Himalayas, balanced on the borders of Bandar-Poonch
Parvat. The main attraction at Yamunotri is the temple (mandir) dedicated to
Goddess Yamuna and the holy thermal Sulphur springs, nearly 7 km away at
Jankichatti. The precise supply of the river is a frozen lake (Sapt Rishi Kund)
and glacier referred to as the Champasar Glacier, located on the Kalind
Mountain, roughly a kilometer from the Sulphur springs. For the reason that path
to the glacier is arduous and nearly unapproachable for frequent pilgrims, they
offer ‘Puja’ in the temple itself.
The Yamunotri temple (mandir) is situated in the Uttarakashi district of
Uttarakhand. The mandir is located about ten kms trek from the town of Hanuman
Chatti, with a break in Janaki Chatti.
Greatest Time to Visit
The Yamunotri temple opens on the auspicious day of the Akshya Tritiya, which
normally falls during the last week of April or first week of May. The temple
(mandir) and the town close down attributable to extremely heavy snowfall on the
blessed day of Diwali (in mid October or first week of November). The area
around Yamunotri remains cool even during summers. The winters are snow-certain
and temperatures fall under 0º C. One is advised to hold gentle or heavy woolens
depending on the time of visit.
According to a legend, Sage Asit Muni had his hermitage here. Throughout his
life he bathed every day in the waters of each Ganga and Yamuna. Steadily,
unable to go to Gangotri throughout his old age, a stream of Ganga appeared
reverse Yamunotri for him. One other legend says that Yamuna’s supposed
frivolousness was as a result of her mother’s inability to take a look at
Yamuna’s father, Lord Surya, in the eye as a result of his large radiance. It's
also said that if one bathes within the waters of Yamuna, the individual ceases
to die a painful demise since Yamuna is the sister of Yama, the lord of death.
Yamunotri might be reached on foot or on a pony from Janaki Chatti. It takes
about 2 1/2 hours to reach Yamunotri on a pony. Throughout unhealthy climate,
buses usually don't reach Janaki Chatti and one has to get down at a place
called Sayana Chatti. From Sayana Chatti, regular Jeep providers to Janaki
Chatti are available a reasonable fees.
