When from the Latin root of homo, fear of man. When
from the Greek root, an irrational fear of homosexuality. The term is used
in this sense rather broadly and may refer to
(a) fear of one's homosexual tendencies or
feelings,
(b) fear of humosexeal persons, or
(c) a general undifferentiated
fear of homosexuality. Strictly speaking it applies
to females or males, although there is a tendency to use it only for men.
Androphobia is fear of man or the malesex.
