Resistance  In psychoanalysis, opposition to making what is unconscious conscious. Note that some psychoanalysts also use the term somewhat more  pragmatically to refer to the opposition to accepting the interpretations made by the analyst. In either case, the resistance is generally regarded as caused by unconscious factors. It is also regarded as universal in psychoanalysis.
