Allergy
The sensitivity of some people to substances that
are quite harmless to most other people. The cells of these
sensitive people produce antibodies to ward off whatever substance
affects them. The antibodies become attached to the tissue cells,
rendering the person sensitized. Whenever that particular substance
enters the body again, it reacts with the attached antibodies and
damages the cells. These damaged cells prompt certain symptoms such
as itching, sneezing, tearing eyes, red welts, large hives, fever,
and a general feeling of
not
being well.
