Plant and animal breeders mate an individual with a
particular dominant trait to an individual that is recessive to determine if the
dominant trait is pure or hybrid. As a result of this mating, if organisms
appear that have the recessive trait, then the breeder knows that the parent
individual is hybrid (heterozygous) for the dominant trait.
